Around Southwestern University you will find many of the large older homes built in the Georgian Colonial style or neo-classic. In the western suburbs of Georgetown, you are more likely to find Neo-Mediterranean, Contemporary, Craftsman, and Prairie Homes. Style names can be misleading. A Craftsman home and a Prairie home are both noted for their spacious, open floor plans.
The style you select will have themes that determine many aspects of the house. For example, a Mediterranean will have a red tile roof. Interior decorators often extend their design guidance to doors and windows.
Your architect will be able to design a floor plan around the style you select. However, some styles favor more open floor plans than others. Your architect can guide you on this.
Interior decorators are different than interior designers. Interior decorators decide on the aesthetics of your new house. You, architects, designers and decorators all work together to create your new house.
What is your preferred style?
If your building site is simple and set, you may not need a landscape architect. However, if you are building on an house designersunusual location, it is wise to include a landscape architect. They will be able to suggest different alternatives for setting your house to save utility bills or get better curb appeal. After consulting with you, the architect will do the exterior and interior design work.
